“HBCUs excel as Texas Southern claims National Cheerleading championship”

The cheer squad from Texas Southern University recently competed in the National Cheer Association Championships with 11 other Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

They won first place in the Cheer Spirit Rally Division I, making them the first HBCU to earn a national title.

There were several other HBCUs who also did well in the competition, with North Carolina A&T State University finishing third overall in the Intermediate All Girl Division I, and Florida A&M finishing fourth.

Other HBCUs, such as Alabama A&M University, Bethune-Cookman University, and Morgan State, also placed in the top 20 in this category.

In addition, Bowie State University placed 11th in the Intermediate All Girl Division II competition, and Edward Waters University finished with a score of 82.96. Southern University’s cheerleaders also did well and advanced to the Intermediate Small Coed Division I finals, finishing third.

Jackson State University finished fourth in that competition. Alabama A&M University and Bethune Cookman University made it to the finals of the Intermediate All Girl Division I, while Tennessee State University advanced to the Intermediate Small Coed Division I.
