Shirley Jean Hamlett was born on April 17, 1948, in Palestine, Texas, to Daniel Cummings Sr. and Doris Dimple Cummings. She was raised in a Christian household and attended McDonald Church of God in Christ with her family.

After graduating from A.M. Story High School in 1966, she married John Hamlett II, and they had two children together. Shirley later received her Certificate in Business Administration and Keyboarding from Tarrant County Junior College and worked as a District Clerk for the Tarrant County Courthouse for a few years.

Shirley was a devoted mother and housewife who loved spending time with her family and being involved in her children’s lives. She was known as “Momma Shirley” to many neighborhood kids and always had a hot meal ready for them.

She was also an active member of True Vine Missionary Baptist Church and loved shopping, dancing, exercising, cooking, sewing, dining, traveling, and watching her favorite shows. Shirley had a big heart and always showed the love of Christ to everyone she met. She was kind, generous, and always willing to help those in need.

Shirley passed away on March 24, 2023, at Baylor Scott & White All Saints Medical Center in Fort Worth, Tx. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Brenda Washington. Shirley’s legacy will forever live on in the lives of her children, siblings, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved her dearly.
