Jerald went on to be named a best-selling author among young Black writers in various African American publications from 1994 to 1996. President Bill Clinton presented him with the Writers Corp Award in 1995. Jerald was inducted into the Mount Vernon Boys and Girls Club Hall of Fame in 1998. Jerald has since won several other awards and is a sought-after motivational speaker who overcame a childhood speech impediment.
