Tuskegee University confirmed the hiring of Aaron James as the school’s 18th head coach on Friday.

From 1998 to 2001, James was a standout quarterback, amassing a 42-5 record, the most victories by any quarterback in programme history. In addition, he earned three SIAC championships and guided Tuskegee to a 12-0 season and the HBCU National Championship in 2000.

James worked as a quarterbacks instructor and offensive coordinator for Tuskegee sports director Reginald Ruffin at Miles for nine years. James’ offence scored more than 28 points per game in his final year at Miles, leading to a 9-3 record, a SIAC championship, and a Division II postseason participation.

In 2022, James served as the offensive coordinator for Bethune-Cookman under then-head coach Terry Sims.
