Eddy was well-known for her role on the popular daytime drama “General Hospital.”
Sonya Eddy, the multitalented actress who held the rare Hollywood distinction of being a licenced vocational nurse rather than a television actress, has died. She was 55 years old.
Octavia Spencer, an Oscar-winning actress and close confidante of Eddy’s, confirmed her death. The Help actress wrote a heartfelt tribute to her friend for her 1.5 million Instagram followers, writing, “the world has lost another creative angel.”
Other industry colleagues were astounded by the tragic news of her untimely death. According to “TMZ,” Eddy was admitted to the hospital for routine surgery on December 9 but contracted a “uncontainable” infection during the procedure. She was discharged and then readmitted several days later for treatment, but she had to be placed on life support. She died on Monday, December 19, 2022.
“I am heartbroken about the loss of the incredible Sonya Eddy,” “General Hospital” executive producer Frank Valentini tweeted. “I adored her not only as an actress, but also as a friend. The lights in the nurse’s station’s hub will be a little dimmer now, but her spirit and light will live on in both the show and our set.”
According to IMDb.com, Eddy has starred in such series as “Those Who Can’t” and “Fresh Off the Boat,” as well as guest appearances on “Seinfeld,” “PEN15,” “A Black Lady Sketch Show,” “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend,” “Glee,” “Mike & Molly,” “2 Broke Girls,” “The Middle, Mom,” and “Castle.”
“On behalf of the entire ‘GH’ cast and crew, we send our deepest sympathy to her family, friends, and fans,” Valentini said of the vivacious Eddy. “She will be greatly missed.”
