After going on a succession of explicit-laced rants about the university’s conditions, new Bethune-Cookman football coach Ed Reed released an apology Monday morning.

“I would like to sincerely apologise to all BCU staff, students, and alumni for my lack of professionalism regarding my social media and comments about the University, staff, and other institutions.” As a parent, teacher, and leader, my words and tone were unacceptable.

My zeal for our culture, betterment, and strengthening our base got the best of me, and I became a victim while interacting with antagonists on social media. I am well conscious of the hardworking individuals at our school who are also striving to improve and become more monetarily secure. My communication with my AD and our leadership has encouraged me, and I realise that it is a work in process. My enthusiasm is obtaining and doing better, and that extends to me as well.

Reed expressed frustration with the university’s state, a lack of support, and his efforts to better the situation while working without a contract in two distinct recordings that went viral online on Sunday.

Reed also reacted to criticism with an explicit rant in which he was angry that he and the football team were required to clear trash from school grounds and that his own office had not been cleaned upon his arrival.

Despite being appointed as the school’s football coach on December 27, the Pro Football Hall of Famer has yet to be formally presented.
