Patti LaBelle was evacuated from a theater performance in Milwaukee late Saturday due to a bomb threat, according to promoters. The vocalist, 78, was escorted out of the theater in the middle of her performance by three men dressed all in black, who had her drop an arrangement of flowers and swiftly leave the venue, followed by her band. “Hold up,” LaBelle was heard saying in a video footage before being led downstairs. According to NBC News, the concertgoers were informed that officers would sweep the venue before they could exit.

The concluding night feature at this year’s New York African Diaspora International feature Festival will be “A Brother’s Whisper” by Jacinto Taras Riddick. (ADIFF). “A Brother’s Whisper,” which received the Ja’Net Dubois Narrative prize at the Pan African Film and Arts Festival in California this year, recounts the tale of Solomon Bordeaux’s return to Fort Greene, Brooklyn, after three deployments of military service in the Iraq-Afghanistan Wars.

It’s been two and a half years since the shocking death of George Floyd brought a little child worldwide fame. That kid is now returning to the limelight. But this time as a creator, not as an observer. “I still think about that day,” Judeah Reynolds said. “It still makes me sad, and I cry at times.”
The picture book “A Walk to the Store,” which recounts Reynolds’ tale, will be published on October 14. The book describes how, when she was nine years old, she wished to purchase candy at a store near her Minneapolis house, and her 17-year-old cousin Darnella Frazier consented to join her.

Whitney Houston: I Wanna Dance with Somebody is a historical musical drama film directed by Kasi Lemmons, based on Anthony McCarten’s script. It is based on the life and work of Whitney Houston, an American pop vocalist and actor. Naomi Ackie, Stanley Tucci, Ashton Sanders, Tamara Tunie, Nafessa Williams, and Clarke Peters appear in the drama.
An official biopic of Houston’s life was revealed for early 2020, with Ackie hired in the main part in December and the rest of the ensemble joining later that year. From August to December 2021, filming took place in Massachusetts and New Jersey.
