Despite the fact that Georgia has historically been a red state over the last two decades, the 2020 election between President Biden and former President Donald Trump demonstrated that an engaged voter turnout strategy focused on Black votes resulted in a successful outcome for Democrats.

This week, Georgia set a new single-day early voting record. Voters are engaged like never before in the run-up to the December 6th U.S. Senate run-off election between Democratic Senator Raphael Warnock and former football running back Herschel Walker.

On Monday, November 28, over 300,000 Georgia voters voted early. The figure shattered the previous record of 233,000 early voters in one day. That record was established in 2018.

The Georgia Republican Party’s early voting record is widely regarded as a red flag, as grass-roots voting activists on the ground tend to lean left. That activism, led by Black Voters Matter, has been seen on social media and featured on Roland Martin Unfiltered in recent weeks.

Former President Barack Obama’s widely publicized and well-attended visit to Georgia on December 1 was likely even more effective in motivating Democratic voters.

Despite the fact that Georgia has historically been a red state over the last two decades, the 2020 election between President Biden and former President Donald Trump demonstrated that an engaged voter turnout strategy focused on Black votes resulted in a successful outcome for Democrats.

The Republican Party has spoken out against early voting and mail-in ballots. So far, over 139,915 absentee ballots have been returned in Georgia.

The race between Senator Warnock and Walker is significant because it determines which party will drive policy in the United States Senate. Even though the Democrats will have procedural control, if the Senate is 50-50, the U.S. Senate will be 51-49 in favor of the Democrats if Sen. Warnock wins in Georgia.
