COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Benedict Tigers won a tight contest against Allen University 67-60 on Saturday afternoon in Allen’s John Hurst Adams Gymnasium.
With 5:22 remaining in the game, the Yellow Jackets held a one-point advantage. With 3:18 left, the Tigers went on a 9-2 run to take a 54-48 advantage. After the Yellow Jackets made a pair of free throws to reduce the Tigers’ lead to four points, Malachi McCoy dunk, and Brandon Beidleman hit a 3-pointer off an Allen error to give the Tigers a 59-50 advantage with 1:43 remaining.
Deshawn Bartley led the Tigers with 14 points, shooting 9-for-10 from the charity stripe. McCoy led the squad with 12 boards.
With their fifth consecutive victory, the Tigers move to 10-7 overall and 8-4 in the SIAC. Allen now has a record of 2-15 overall and 2-10 in the SIAC.
Benedict goes to Edward Waters on Monday before concluding their six-game road travel on Wednesday at Savannah State.
